I believe that at the heart of cooking is one thing, and one thing only: Enjoyment! Whether it’s from preparing your favourite dish and sharing it with friends and family, or – let’s be honest – eating, food is a major source of joy in everyday life. I’m an advocate for nutritious, healthy eating, and have a passion for creating vibrant, flavourful dishes, using healthy down to earth ingredients.

I am a Toronto native who loves the city’s diverse and inspiring food and culture scene. In one block you can find Italian, Greek, Thai, Caribbean, and Mediterranean restaurants, and don’t get me started on the food trucks! I am a mom of two, born entrepreneur, aspiring cookbook author, veggies lover, good food advocate, culinary arts student, student of nutrition and Contributor at Toronto Caribbean Newspaper (Healthy Green Eating). My mission here is to create, educate, entertain and inspire through my love for food.

Follow me as I develop a “food system” guide this year to answer tough questions we have about where our food comes from, how it’s processed, and how we can best use it to nourish our bodies.
Aside from cooking and sharing delicious recipes, understanding what I call the “food system” has become increasingly important to me. How do we eat for the 21st Century? Better yet, where’s my food coming from? To better answer these questions, this year I’ve decided to track the ingredients used in my dishes from the field to fork. I’ll also explore how food is processed in the Canadian food system, and let you guys in on local food initiatives. I look forward to sharing this information with you!
There’s no greater pleasure than preparing a meal for family and then sitting back and watching everyone dig in. I first got a taste of this pleasure at twelve-years-old when I cooked my first meal – dinner for five. I remember that sunny morning in Jamaica very well. My active and beautiful Mom, who is an amazing cook herself, woke up with neck pain (ouch!). Without knowing, or even asking what the plan for dinner was, I decided to get things started. By the time my mom got back from the doctor, dinner was served.
I cook the way my mom taught me. I had never cooked a meal before the day my mom sprained her neck, but I had loved hanging out in the kitchen from a young age. There was always something delicious on the stove. I experienced the different smells and uses for fresh herbs and spices just by observing, or, as my mom called it, “being nosey” (pun intended). For dinner that day, I cooked White Rice, Beef Kidney with Lima Beans and Callaloo. Not only was it delicious, but it was cooked to taste exactly the way my mom would make it. My family still talks about that special meal to this day.
Even the most health-conscious diner can get to the end of a day and forget to eat a leafy green; life gets busy. Cooking Green Goodness is for the person with a goal to incorporate more vegetables, fresh herbs and fruits into their daily diet. Learn cooking tips like how spinach can be used as a secret ingredient in some incredibly moist, dense chocolate brownies, and in delectable smoothies. You’ll forget you’re eating something healthy!
Cooking to me is about creating dishes with ingredients that I love. Cooking is getting to know herbs and spices. The best part about cooking is that the more you do it, the more flavours you and your taste buds discover. And you’ll just get better at it!
